Whatta ya know, another Hikawa character along with Hikawa Yayo from Sei Shoujo Sentai Lakers EX! Anyway, this is based on an eroge I've never played of the same name. It's an interesting little work. Beautiful colors and animation, for one thing. The story focuses on a love triangle that develops between the MC (your typical eroge protag, nondescript), a girl who moved away who he never confessed his feelings for, and another girl who is with him and has developed a crush on him. The girl who moved away ended up living in Myanmar, but she has just returned. The Myanmar parts are kind of an interesting motif. This character is a childhood friend of the MC. She is a refined miko, but is also pretty spunky and assertive, which I like.

This one caught me off guard. So in case you haven't heard, Cream Lemon is a really old hentai series (though it varies in how explicit it is, and even the more explicit ones are pretty tame nowadays). It doesn't have one story, but is rather a number of shorts, most of which are self-contained. Some of them do build on each other over multiple episodes. They can range in tone from serious melodrama to wacky parodies. That's the original Cream Lemon from the 80s. This is a reboot of it from 2006. It's pretty mediocre I would say. The animation can especially be lacking. But the last episode of it at least had this cute miko. The story is weird. It's about a guy who stays behind at his school after dark. There are a few other students, but they are being possessed and devoured from the inside by these hideous bug monsters. Then this girl appears because she seems to be the only one who can purify them. She's cute but IDK what's up with the appendages her hair is making... They look a little dumb.

Don't know what the fuck is up with the names Maria and Atena. I guess they wanted to give them western "holy"-sounding names. Anyway, this series is about a cosplay club who wants to win first place at the Cosplay World Series. The story is mostly just a bunch of gags related to cosplay. It's clearly a love letter to cosplay and made for cosplay maniacs. The way you know this most is the credits, which are awesome: They have a bunch of real-life photos of excellent cosplayers from the time (2002), and this is worth it just to see those! Anyway, two of the club members are these miko sisters. They don't appear a ton and are mostly just there to set up gags, but Maria is kind if a bit ditzy and Atena is cute if a bit mischevious.

Popotan is a great anime, but quite an unusual one. It's apparently adapted from an eroge and a lot was changed. Its first episode focuses on a boy who finds a strange mansion on the edge of a cliff. There's a Christmas tree out front and a Christmas-themed store on the inside which appears to operate year-round, despite the fact that they clearly don't get many customers. Inside the mansion, our main character meets three sisters named Ai, Mai, and Mii (get it?), whose origins and seeming distance from ordinary life are just as mysterious. Anyway, from then on there's a bunch of great ecchi and silly humor. In one episode, a miko named Nono comes to the Christmas store. She's never been able to celebrate Christmas because it would be a conflict with her miko background, but she secretly wants to. I DISAPPROVE OF THIS WESTERNIZATION BULLSHIT!!!!! But it's a cute concept I suppose.

The story is about two high school miko who are in love with each other (yes, this is a yuri). They are revealed to have a secret destiny in the typical mahou shoujo style and their enemy is an evil god based on the legendary eight-headed and eight-tailed serpent Yamata no Orochi, but in this one he's basically a big mecha. I like this series a lot, though I think it could have been even more impressive with tighter storytelling. I don't have a problem with some more "controversial" parts of the plot that western fans hated because they're pussies though. Those were great (I won't talk about it because spoilerz).

Maori has her own shrine on this site because I love her so much! But first of all, some context about Arcana Heart. It's an incredible fighting game series with intense air combat and a lot of depth via its intricate Arcana system. Basically, you choose a character (all girls, as it should be) and then each one of those characters has their own "Arcana," which is a spiritual being which they are connected to basically. The Arcana gives you a whole second set of moves and specials that combines with your girl's base moveset, and any girl can pick any other girl's Arcana. Anyway, enter the Kasuga family: a group of miko whose family has been entrusted with spiritual matters since time immemorial. Her Arcana is connected to the element of earth. She is a joyous, happy, polite, and graceful girl. She secretly loves chocolate! Also she is my wife. She has three sisters, the sporty Tsudzune and the cute twins Koita and Kouta.

Who doesn't know Lucky Star at this point? It's one of the classic moe anime and primarily focuses around four girls, Konata, sisters Kagami and Tsukasa, and Miyuki. Konata is a lazy otaku and is hilarious, Kagami is tsundere with a capital T and always bickers with Konata in a hilarious way (also prime yuri shipping headcanon material), Tsukasa is shy and reserved and a nice foil to her sister, and Miyuki is refined and proper (and has big bewbz). Anyway, Kagami and Tsukasa also happen to work as miko. It comes up in a few episodes, most notably in the New Years' special episode. The shrine they work at is based on a real one in Saitama Prefecture and is apparently a big otaku pilgrimage site (I've never been though). Anyway, if you haven't seen Lucky Star at this point, what's wrong with you?

Unusual little OVA. Feels like the kind of thing that you would see more in the 90s, but it's from 2007 instead. It's a kind of comedic ecchi story. It's set in a time when robotic maids are commonplace. (Umm.... when??? Get on it guys!) The MC buys one and loves tormenting her by making her dress up in all his favorite cosplays!!! We eventually meet more characters as the maid walks around town on business and gets into hijinks, and there's a girl for just about all tastes. We should give special attention to Hagiwara Kanae who has gigantic tits. But the real stars are these two miko sisters with magical powers to summon monsters and also are extremely jealous of Hagiwara because of their pitifully flat chests! A very nice little OVA.

Okay, this character isn't really ever confirmed to be a miko or not. She never does much "miko" stuff. But you know what? Her outfit is close enough so she goes here! Deal with it! Sekirei is a fantastic ecchi anime. It's about a guy who just can't get into college and therefore is seen as a loser and a failure. But this character, Musubi, literally falls into his life from the sky. She is a "Sekirei," which is kind of like an alien superhero in the shape of a hot girl. From then on, the plot is kind of like Pokemon but with sexy girls instead of animal monsters. It's a fantastic harem. There eventually come to be several busty girls in the MC's home, but Musubi is definitely the cutest of them all IMO.

Well, I hate to disappoint you if you haven't read or watched Steins;Gate yet. This might count as a minor spoiler, but you'll know it the first time you encounter this character: HE IS NOT A GIRL! I was pissed. Ruka is as feminine and pure as could be, the most ideal and archetypal miko you could imagine... except he has a dick. To the disappointment of everyone. But sure, I should include him here on the basis of a cute design and the quality of the source material. Anyway, Steins;Gate is a quality enough anime, but the original visual novel it is adapted from shits all over it in every way. It's an amazing visual novel and definitely one I recommend to people who are new to the medium and want a good one to get hooked by.

Saki is a series which has everything I should love: Lots and lots of cute girls, tons of fanservice, potential yuri pairings all over the place, and almost no male characters of substance. Also the designs are nice and it's set in Nagano Prefecture which is one of my favorite parts of Japan. There's one major downside: THE STORY IS ALL ABOUT MAHJONG! I'm sorry, I really cannot find Mahjong entertaining to watch. I tried to learn the rules of riichi Mahjong to understand this and I found it impossibly boring. Still, I watched this series ignoring all the Mahjong stuff and just enjoyed the girls. Of course, I can only love it so much with that in mind. But if you aren't as retarded as me and can follow Mahjong, you should watch Saki. In the Zenkoku-hen series, one of the Mahjong teams is a group of miko from Kagoshima Prefecture. All of them are great, but of course my favorite has to be Iwato Kasumi with her enormous mammaries.
